The European Work-Time Network’s 2024 Conference
Abstract
We are delighted to share the recording of the 2024 European Work Time Network conference, our sixth annual gathering dedicated to exploring the “How” and “Who” of working time reduction across Europe.
Building on our successful discussions from previous conferences on “Working Time Reduction and the Climate Crisis” (2020) and “A 4-Day Week for Europe?” (2022), this year’s event takes a practical approach, examining concrete steps for reducing working hours, addressing implementation challenges, and identifying key drivers of this transformation.
The two-day conference features five panels tackling critical questions, from balancing wage considerations with reduced hours, to the advantages of reducing daily work versus adopting a four-day work week. Our diverse panelists—representing trade unions, research institutions, and policy advocacy—share insights relevant to all sectors, from industry and office settings to service roles, providing rich perspectives on how working time reduction is reshaping workplaces across Europe.
We extend our thanks to our partners, including the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, the Alex Ferry Foundation, EPSU, and ETUI, for their support, and to our network coordinator, India Burgess, along with team members Alexandra Arnstsen, Gudmundur Haraldson, Maria Jaidopulu, and Jose Luis Gallegos Quezadas, for their incredible work in bringing this event to life.
Join us in exploring these timely discussions by watching the recording of the conference, and be a part of shaping the future of work in Europe.
